The Seriousness of Contentedness is a clustered percussion heavy collage and the second release for “The Sleeping Giants”. As the title suggests, the business of being content is fraught, and the song swims through chaotic layered drum recordings, whilst still striking a tight-rope like balance. It’s featured drum parts were originally a one microphone, bedroom recording, free improv jam. Yet the title is also knowingly a little tongue in cheek, to be at peace is to be calm and free of a serious furrowed brow. It takes sudden dips into lush ambience and half time rhythms, as some sort of peace is found. This mental oscillation is captured in a song that dances around busy layered live percussion, hip hop inspired drum machines, jazz inspired chords and reverb soaked ambience galore, all assembled into an electronica collage.
